Albufera Boat Trip
40–45 minutes from El Palmar
A relaxed 40–45 minute trip on a traditional wooden boat, through the canals and out onto the lake, with the family that has lived in El Palmar for generations. We speak English on board.
The Albufera as it really is
The classic trip follows the traditional canals of the Albufera Natural Park out to the heart of the lake. It is calm, unhurried and a long way from a standard tourist boat.
Your skipper comes from the El Roig family, who have lived and worked on the lake for generations. Along the way you hear how fishing, rice growing and hunting shaped life in El Palmar, and you see the birds that nest in the reeds.

Canals, rice fields and birdlife
The route runs between rice fields and reed beds before opening onto the lake. More than 250 bird species have been recorded in the Natural Park: flamingos, ibises and cormorants are common sights.
Back at the pier, take a look at the traditional barraca, one of the few still standing in El Palmar. It is the kind of thatched house in which fishermen and rice farmers once lived.
Looking for something later in the day? The sunset boat trip sails when the light is at its best.
